Voting for Ourselves

This guy must have been a prophet or just smart enough to see the end result of people voting in their own self-interest. Some would call it individual irresponsibility.

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years." - 1831, Alexis de Tocqueville

  1. Alexis de Tocqueville is totally right. People that have the money, objects, life, etc; really don't think of other people that can be suffering or starving. Democracy should exist in not only the government but also the people. The poor want to be respected, treated the same way. How would any of you that is reading this comment like to be treated with inferiority? well in my point of view, I wouldn't like it. If you say that you like it I don't know what is wrong with you, or you just don't think by the fact that humans should be treated the same ways as others. We are all brothers because we are all line of Adam and Eve, and we are all brothers, we have the same rights.

  2. I also agree. The rich dont often think of the poor, and when they do, its because the poor owe them something. Gabo is right; we should all be treated equally. Im not saying I agree with communism, because that only chooses one religion to follow, and its never christianity. We are all equal, no matter what race, religion, or ideas we follow. Goofbye.

  3. I understand that it is important to support people who cannot support themselves. But it should not be the responsibility of the government to support those people. First of all, from what I see on the street, more than half of the people who are said to not be able to provide are just to lazy and demand that people who work hard for their money use it to help them. What this quote is talking about is that those people who are just faking are the ones who vote for democrats, not because they will lead our country better, but because they will receive money. I agree with Gabriel that everyone has the same rights. Those rights are to have the opportunity to work and earn to support themselves while they are not entitled to a rich luscious life if they do not work.

  4. I agree with everybody. I this quote means that once people who realize that hey can vote for presidents and National leaders just for their own good so that benefits and money come to them, then that's when the economy goes down and political problems occur. This is happening to the USA right now. The voters need to open their eyes and vote for the good of the country., not for their own good. I this is why communism has a benefit, because if it is done properly, then everybody is equal and no one is really poor. I example: china

  5. I have to agree with this post because it talks about how much power people have to decide on the democratic party. The Democratic party tends to favor minorities and talks about controversial issues that todays generation want. Today's generation is very corrupt. It's decisions and selfish "wants" will affect how the democratic party will lean on its primary campaign issues. For example how Obama uses the same sex marriage issues or abortion issues to gain votes for his campaign. This is only one example of many, but it goes to show that it is the peoples selfish wants and not what God wants. All people can't be satisfied and they are always going to want more, since they have the power to decide what is right because its what they want.
