Lubbock

My family and I headed out Christmas morning to visit some of our favorite friends in Andrews, TX. and to attend a wedding for one of their children. Right now we are sitting in a hotel in Lubbock, TX preparing for the wedding which will take place tomorrow afternoon. Sunday I will be teaching at the Calvary Baptist Church in Andrews where my friend Bill Melton pastors. He and his family took a little time off with their family in Arkansas and I'm pinch hitting for him. It's always a pleasure to speak at his church. They are a great group of believers.

Merry Christmas

I just want to wish each of you a very Merry Christmas. Life here at Borderland is slowing down a bit with all of the various Christmas related activities already past. We have but our service Sunday morning the 23rd and then our Candlelight Service on the 24th at 6:00pm. Then it will be Christmas with our families and loved ones. We will be heading to San Antonio to spend a few days with my brother-in-law. Jannett also wants to do a little shopping in San Marcos while we're there. Then we will head to Andrews, Texas to spend with some dear friends whose son is getting married on the 29th in Lubbock, Texas. After that, I will be preaching in the morning service at Calvary Baptist Church in Andrews, Texas. God bless each of you and I pray that you have the best Christmas ever. Please don't forget to spend time with the Reason for the season!

Proud Administrator

We had our first annual formal for the students of San Benito Christian Academy last night and I am so proud of them. They did such a wonderful job. Some or them sang, presented memorized poems and played instruments. I am very very blessed to have students like that in our school. I am proud of you Dane, Brandon, Ana Gabriella, Juan Felipe, Philip, Claribel and Victoria. Great job!

The Evil of Compromise

The Bible says in Matthew 5:37, “But let you communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.”

On CNN television (November 9, 2007), Wolf Blitzer(the show is called “The Situation Room”) interviewed the “pastor” of the largest “church” in the United States. Wolf asked his opinion on “gay rights.” The pastor’s response was as follows, “I don’t think homosexuality is God’s best but I just try to stay in my calling and the main thing is we’re for everybody to bring them hope and encouragement and not to exclude a certain group from our following.”

Blitzer went on to ask about “same sex marriages” and “same sex unions?” The pastor responded, “You know, Wolf, I’m not up to speed on all that…I don’t know about all the technical issues. I’m certainly for everybody having a chance in life and being kind and respectful to everyone. But I just don’t know if I’m up to speed on it all.”

Ironically, and I think, very appropriate, Blitzer then asked, “Have you ever considered running for office?”

Brothers and sisters, Jesus said that Satan himself is the author of compromise. Anything other than saying what you mean and meaning what you say is not only “evil,” it’s DANGEROUS! How so? Well, Jesus also declared, “If you deny Me before men, I will deny you before My Father in heaven” (Matthew 10:37-38).

There are many ways to deny Jesus. Refusing to accurately represent Him is one of them. And this is something that, being a pastor myself, “I am up to speed on…”
