Can We Really Be Sure?

Can we really be sure that Christ rose from the dead? The Bible says that after Jesus rose from the dead he showed himself alive by many infallible proofs and was seen for forty days speaking the things pertaining to the kingdom of God. Acts 1:3

Here are the chronological eyewitness accountsof the bodily appearance of Jesus Christ following his resurrection.

1. Mary Magdalene, Mary, the mother of James, Salome, Joanna, and at least one other woman with them – (Matt. 28:1; Mark 16:1; Luke 24:10)
2. Two angels – (Mark 16:5-6; Luke 24:4-5)
3. Peter and John – (John 20:2-3)
4. Mary Magdalene alone – (John 20:15-17)
5. Mary and other women on the way to tell the disciples – (Matt. 28:8-9)
6. Cleopas and another man on the road to Emmaus – (Luke 24:13-15; 24:18)
7. The disciples and them that were with them – (Luke 24:33; 36-40)
8. The disciples and Thomas, eight days later – (John 20:26)
9. More than 500 brethren at once – (1 Cor. 15:6)
10. The disciples while they were fishing – (John 21:1-14)
11. Paul – (1 Cor. 15:8)
12. The disciples and others at his ascension – (Acts 1:9)
13. John at the Revelation – (Rev 1:12-13; Rev 1:18)

In all, Jesus was seen by more than 500 people after his resurrection. That amount of witnesses should remove all doubt that Jesus did indeed truly rise from the dead; and faith in that fact of history is the only thing that is required for man’s salvation.

That why the apostle Paul said in Romans 10:9-10,13 “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’”

  1. All the evidence that was given to everyone and still so many people didn't believe that Jesus resurrected. If you think about it the people in that time had more evidence than we have today all we have is a book and a few scraps of remains of the event. They killed him because he was saving people from death, pain etc. If you think about it we have more faith than they did. 500 people told a message to the world that almost all the world knows.

  2. It's sad to think how many people actually do not believe that Jesus truly was raised from the dead. Even with all of the evidence given here some people are still hard hearted. One of the most trajic cases is of the Jews. They believe that Jesus was a man here on earth, but that he was simply a prophet. History even tells us that he was crucified, but after that is where Jews do not believe. The people that He came to save completely reject the truth of their own savior. Along with the Jews are the Catholics. They, as well, believe in the life of Jesus, but not the life that he gives. They focus on his death, which was a great thing, but they miss the fact of his resurrection which is what really matters.

  3. People are very ignorant and want to believe what they think is right. The bible is the main evidence that can prove to anyone that Jesus was raised from the dead. It is true, one needs faith to believe in Christ and what he did for us but what more evidence do people need to see that Christ did rise from the dead? People need to open their eyes and see the truth, because those who say Christ never raised from the dead than they're spiritually blinded.

  4. David,

All the evidence in the world will not convince everyone as to the claims of the Bible. Wicked man does not want to believe the Bible, because to acknowledge its authority would place them beneath it. They are way to arrogant for that.

    Thanks for the post!
